In September 2015, the management team executed a buyout of WPC Healthcare, creating an independent organization headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.
WPC names former Microsoft executive Ray Guzman CEO of WPC Healthcare, rebranding the company and launching a healthcare information technology platform based on the successful execution of hundreds of engagements with healthcare organizations nationally.
WPC Services is launched in Nashville to expand business from publishing to consulting services around healthcare compliance and data-related issues.
WPC opens an office near Microsoft in Seattle Washington, establishing a West Coast presence and becoming a Microsoft Signature Partner.
WPC does a deal with Microsoft to develop key artifacts for the BizTalk Accelerator for HIPAA (a data integration engine), allowing data from multiple systems—both internally to an enterprise, and externally with their trading partners—to communicate with one another.
WPC is named in the HIPAA law as the publisher of most of the mandated electronic transactions as publisher for ASC X12N.
WPC is on the front lines as publisher for the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange. WEDI expected their implementation guides would be adopted under law. Ultimately the work became ASC X12N products.
1989 – Early 1990s
WPC began publishing for several industry associations, such as the American Petroleum Institute, the American Trucking Associations, and the Association of American Railroads as well as corporations, including Apple, IBM, and GE.
WPC was formally incorporated and began publishing EDI implementation guides for industry associations, beginning with the Voluntary Inter-industry Communication Standards, known as VICS. Bass worked primarily with Levi Strauss on the first retail supply chain implementation.
Steve Bass worked for EDI, Inc., the pioneering EDI translator company, running pilots as an advocate for industry transaction standards. Working with Service Merchandise, Brock Candy and others, including their trading partners, showcased the benefits of transaction standards.
Founder Steve Bass was hired by the Transportation Data Coordinating Committee (TDCC), the inventor of EDI as we know it today, as a graphic artist to draw flowcharts for the first publication of those EDI standards.
